Anyone come across the problem of screen becoming frozen,
turned 2140 off on Friday, working fine. Come Monday, unable to do anything no matter what buttons are pressed, routes have been collected, unable to transfer data.....
only function that works is screen brightness.
If so how was it rectified? did you lose data? Is there a reset somewhere?
Thanks

I assume that your machine is off and you can toggle it to on.  Otherwise, there is an instance on the web where the screen was frozen and the 2140 could not be shut off.  In that instance holding down the power button for about 10 seconds fixed things.  This is also in the manual, page 19 as a "hard reboot".  Otherwise, my first approach with virtually any digital device is to disconnect any charger, power pack, etc., remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then reinstall the battery and retest.  All these devices have essentially a computer inside and that typically causes a reboot.

Having said that, what you may lose I can't say as I'm not familiar with the 2140.

Have had that happen to me several times; sometimes from pushing the wrong button sequence when bouncing on my hip while climbing somewhere. Often it's accompanied by a continuous low-level tone coming from the box, so I am told, although my ears are shot enough that I can't hear it without putting it against my ear. [frown]

I just unscrew the battery enough to break the connection and wait about 10 seconds before tightening it back down. Haven't lost any saved data yet.

I have had this issue with our first 2140 from 2014...same as Trapper, I assumed I was moving too quickly through the menus (but quick button pressing seemed to trigger it often) particularly when using the Balance Program.
It was persistent but seemed to be random then became more prevalent, the unit made a couple of trips to Knoxville for annual inspections and no issues ID'd, though I can't say we directly said that it was freezing up.

Came back this August, 1 week to the day it DIED!!  Sent back in, memory module had failed (replaced under maintenance contract)...the unit froze on a Fri, came in Monday and it would not boot, tried reloading firmware and config files through the boot menu and there was an error message "Configuration file missing..."

It has been back for a few weeks and seems to be a spry as ever...time will tell.

Nok

To get to the boot menu:

Press and Hold "Home" button
Press Power Button once
The boot menu should appear with some options...

Thanks Fellas,
This was an enquiry for a mate who doesn't do forums. I'm still using a 2130.
I will pass on all your comments.

My 2140 locks up occasionally. They supposedly "fixed" it a couple of years ago when I was in Knoxville for training. But it still does it sometimes, usually when the screen has "timed out" and temporarily blanked. I've always just unplugged the battery as others have mentioned. But just this week I tried just holding the power button down until it restarts. Much easier. Manual? You mean there's a manual for this thing?

Problem left when I pulled the battery off and disconnected power for a minute. No data lost, just restored touchscreen capabilities.

Sometimes I get black screen and unresponsive to any button, I leave the power button pressed for 10-20 seconds until unit restarts

well since my last post here in oct 2017 I've been a 2140 user myself and just recently had the frozen, then black screen thing happen to me. sent it to Emerson Australia and they replaced the memory module. Had it back for 2 weeks now and have ran a few routes with no probs............
