You can also look at the cost effective X5 collector solution with 3-axis, ODS, Balancing etc. options and software

Thanks Mark, Jim,
I have Expert ALERT version 3.50.0.88

Okay, I get that about the MID's but it would be really nice to know what the acronym stood for.

I am getting close to understanding this pretty well.  One curious part left is how do I assure a Data Collection Set up applies to the group of readings I am now taking.  Is that done in the Data Collector software?  I have having trouble finding a link so I can set my Fmax and lines. I understand that Lines are not set in the Data Collection Setup, but I have seen it settable elsewhere...

This is done in EA, select the point and press right mouse button and select open location. Then click the vibration readings tab and select the appropriate setup from the drop down list for the low range, high range and demod. You can set a default for these and then any new machines will use this setup.

In the main tree shown on the top left of EA, scroll to the bottom and find the parent called Data Collection Setups, click right mouse button and select New setup.

Thanks Guys,
I got it.  Going out in the field today to take some actual measurements and collect some data.  Lets see how it goes.
Thanks for all of the support.

For the record I am stuck with this hardware for the moment.  What I don't like:

Tablet PC, I cannot upload data to my PC - I have to analyze it on the collector.
It's Windows XP, not supported at BNL and I cannot connect it to the network.

What I like:
it's already paid for.
There is actually quite a bit of functionality

Not to lead you astray, does it have USB, then it can have WiFI or network dongle and you can remote desk or VNC so you have the desk on your PC anyway.
This would be the general case with XP, there may be things stopping all possibilities but anyway.
