We have a couple of Class 1 Div 1 areas. The area Reliability Coordinator of these areas would rather us purchase a Class 1 Div 1 rated data collector instead of wiring out accelerometers for 1 pump. (Yes, 1 pump) The RC said it was going to cost $15K to wire out the pump. (Not sure why as we already have the cables and accels here.)

We presently use Commtest VB-7's which are Class 1 Div 2. Does anyone know of a Class 1 Div 1 vibration analyzer? From what I can see in the spec sheets Class 1 Div 2 is about as good as it gets.

Thanks,

I am really not so home with Ex, I have to read every time and ask and I have not for this. Anyway FYI ,MVP-2C collector is ATEX Zone 0, Ex II 1G/EEx ia IIC T4 and that is about as much numbers I have seen.
Normally a couple of Ex accels and a zener barrier box can't be that much unless there is some certification after installation involved that somebody charge for? Olov

No, I think it is just someone that doesn't want to run the access.

We use common datacollectors in Ex environment, in combination with a personal gas detector hanging on the jacket. That is the cheapest way and still safe enough.

Agree with Edwin. We performed cutting and welding operations in a Hydrogen area using a portable meter to check for LEL.

Same as that I use a gas meter in areas like that and hot work permit from customer.

Thanks everyone.

I think the Reliability Coordinator's opinion was changed by a higher authority.
