now I have installed mhm v5.70 in an old pc.

I have a "new pc" and before my support agreement expired I received the V.6.3 but dint install/upgrade because I was getting a new pc and planing to install from zero and this took a little too much.

how to move the databases and install, i was planing to do.

1) backup database using zip utility.
2) install and activate mhm 6.3.
3) restore databases using zip ulitity.

are these steps good?

Ferdy, the way my 5.61 version of MHM is set up, all of the data is in a subdirectory of RBMsuite called CustData.  Using a USB drive as a target, I would just copy the entire CustData directory.  After you install 6.3 on the new PC, I would rename the CustData directory (for the new installation), and then copy over the old (5.7) CustData directory.  The first time you open each data file in the new MHM it should prompt you to upgrade the file structure.  Of course you can do the same thing with a zip utility, but large USB drives (thumb drives) are pretty cheap now, so that's what I use.

I'm new to this game and subscribed to help my development.

I upgraded from 5.61 to the 6.3 version. My advice to you is don't do it. My company has a maintenance agreement with Emerson. I spent almost 2 weeks getting software installed on a server and transferring the CustData file over. Some of the issues were with the company IT department. I had an Emerson Engineer help me with almost every step so I wouldn't mess the install up. Since then they have come out with several "hot fixes" to 6.3 because of issues. I really don't see the benefit of upgrading. I had to because of the company upgrading to Windows 10. The install should go smoother for you on a PC (I would suspect) but you won't have support and I'm not sure if you will have access to the hot fixes.

just did it yesterday, transition was ok i guess.

back in april received a "5.x db schema conveter" asked for it again because link expired, they send me the converter and a "AMSMM6.3CumulativeHotfix.6.3.1.19"

steps,

zip old database.
single user install and activation.
made a new locker and restore using the utility there, then execute 5.x db schema converter (in the email said to apply even if it was converted by previous version).
install hotfix,

so far no issues, only i have to force the routes to the database, to solve I need to delete all routes and load them again.

I have been running 5.61 on Windows 10 Pro for several years now, works OK, but is sluggish at times and doesn't format the screen properly (some text and tabs are freakishly small).  Like Ferdy, I am a single user on a single machine, so about as simple as it gets. My issue is I don't actually own the copy I have - a customer bought it for my use, and it's licensed in their name, so Emerson won't let me upgrade it. I may ask my customer to upgrade it though - all they can say is 'no' I guess.  Surely there are some new "features" or tools available since 5.61 (Feb 2015) that are worth having.  Plus I would hope this new version will be compatible with the next iteration of Windows.

There is nothing in later versions that is very useful in my old age opinion.

But inevitably we are forced to move on.  I am dabbling in diagnostic plotting.

This is the large company way. Employ new people and hey... just make sure the same software is current windows compliant and call it a new name and charge a lot more.  Salary increase guaranteed. (without any effort and betterment of function)

I guess my life should have been in banking (remember Northern rocks where all that paid the price were home owners) but the execs go away scott free.  I so wish that all who should have been accountable should have been made accountable.

Off the vibration track!

fburgos,

Hi, I don't use anything other than the *.rbm files which means you can simply copy them across.

If you use rbmview it is another matter but who uses that anyway, it is the most click intensive stupidity around.  I do have a solution for that but wont turn this into vender reply. rgds
