Hello,

Has anyone had experience with monitoring of escalators? You know... the ones installed in busy area which would practically be in continuous running?

Would this be effective? There's the slow speed side of it which I believe would be challenging.
I would consider this as an application for a wireless system, correct? since structure would be totally enclosed.

Anyone has ever done this, please?

Thank you for your help and comments.

Maintenance of escalators is actually pretty well defined and is quite rigorous, due in large part to what Danny mentions.  In my experience there can be local, state and even in some rare circumstances some federal requirements.   There is an ASME code, specifically A17.1/8.6.1.4 which outlines the requirements for a maintenance program.

The ASME Code is up for revision and as such a draft version is available for public comment.  It can be found online at https://cstools.asme.org/csconnect/Filedownload.cfm?thisfile=PublicReviewDraft2418.pdf&dir=ANSI.BSR8&43275.582037.

Some guys on LinkedIn from Germany were running some tests on raw vibration time wave form and ultrasound using a detection algorithm for flaw detection.
They had a partnership with Thyssen Krupp if I can find it I’ll send the details.
