Suppose a run-to-failure methodology is used. A motor fails and is replaced. What do you call that? Which department does the replacement?

Perhaps the rub is in asserting that the only legitimate “maintenance” activities are those that maintain a machine in an un-faulted, working condition. Are we going to have to also have a “replacements” department, a “repairs” department, and an “installations” department as well.

How fine does this need to be chopped to get all the semantics correct?
